LAGUARDIA AIRPORT

Aeroporto LaGuardia - Foto laguardiaairport.comThis airport is named after Fiorello LaGuardia, the former mayor of New York who had the current structure built. It is located in Queens along the coast opposite the Flushing Bay and the Bowery Bay and the three major airports is the smallest and closest to Manhattan. Most of the air traffic is on domestic flights and with Canada. Terminals and car parks are connected with each other with a free shuttle service.

Accessibility

Transportation
The purple, red and blue buses connecting the airport terminals and car parks are wheelchair-accessible.

Parking
In the parking lots of the airport there are parking spaces reserved for the disabled near the exits.
Terminals
Assistance with baggage transport, check-in and boarding assistance must be agreed with the airline at least 24-48 hours prior to departure. When travelling with a motorized wheelchair, it is advisable to ask the company about their transport rules before purchasing the ticket. The detail to be checked is the batteries.
Accessible drinking water fountains are available at the various terminals and all bathrooms are wheelchair accessible. There are also Pet Relief Areas dedicated to service animals accompanying disabled people.

Parking area

LaGuardia Airport offers daily parking. Terminal Parking Rates are free for the first 1/2 hour, then $ 5 Up to 1 hour and $5 each additional 1/2 hour, or fraction. 24-hour maximum $39.
There are 3 parking lot, Terminal A Parking (uncovered daily parking), Terminal B Parking (covered parking), Terminal C/D Parking (covered parking). There is also the B Wait Area where the first three hours are free but drivers must remain in their vehicles.
Free Airport Shuttle Bus service is available to all terminals and parking lots.

Public transport

New York MTA buses run between the airport and Manhattan and Queens.

Car rental

Car rental companies can be reached by AirTrain train. Avis, Enterprise, Hertz and National are located at the P3 car park. Alamo, Budget, Dollar at parking lot P2.

Taxi

Taxis have the classic yellow colour and the licence number is written on a medallion placed on the bonnet of the car. Unlike JFK Airport, there is no flat fee for connecting to Manhattan but a taximeter that must initially score $3. To the final figure must be added any extras such as bridge or tunnel tolls and gratuity, which are around 15%. In peak hours there is an extra charge of $1 (weekdays 4AM-8AM) and for the night (8PM - 6PM) $0.50.
