La Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House sede del National Museum of the American Indian (George Gustav Heye Center) - Foto Filippo Pompili Part of the prestigious Smithsonian Institution, the museum is dedicated to the history of the Native people of the Americas, is located within the Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House and, together with the headquarters in Washington D.C., owns one of the largest collections of its kind in the world. In addition to permanent and temporary exhibitions, the museum organizes programs that include music, dance, film and symposiums.
Over 825,000 artifacts and art objects belong to a 12,000 year historical period and over 1,200 indigenous cultures in the Americas. The collection also includes 324,000 photos from 1860 to the present day and an average archive of 12,000 audiovisual objects.
